DOCUMENTATION / API REFERENCE

Small surface.
Useful data.

Send Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY with every request. Responses are JSON, with data and source metadata. Use the OpenAPI specification for machine-readable endpoint definitions.

Response metadata

Responses wrap their payload in data. Metadata includes the source, fetch time, request ID, and a stale indicator. Paginated endpoints include pagination with the offset, limit, total, and next offset where applicable.

  "data": [],
  "meta": {
    "source": "SEC source URL",
    "fetchedAt": "ISO 8601 timestamp",
    "stale": false,
    "requestId": "request identifier"
  }
}

This is an illustrative envelope, not a live response. Run a real request in the playground.

Errors and usage limits

Inspect the HTTP status before processing data. Errors use error.code, error.message, and error.requestId; retry guidance may be included for rate limits.

PARAMETERDESCRIPTION
400Invalid or missing request parameters.
401Missing or invalid API authentication.
404The requested resource was not found.
429Request rate or usage allowance exceeded. Respect retry guidance.
5xxService or upstream request failure. Retry with bounded exponential backoff.

Cache responses where appropriate for your application and avoid retry loops. Free accounts include 1,000 monthly requests. Paid plans provide larger allowances; see pricing.

SEC API is an independent service. Public SEC data can contain amendments, taxonomy differences, and filing-specific contexts. Verify material conclusions against original filings.
